dr Mukhopadhyay AnirbanŻyciorys naukowy
Dr. Anirban Mukhopadhyay is Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Geographical Sciences at Kazimierz Wielki University (UKW), Bydgoszcz, Poland. He works on coupled hydrological, coastal and ocean processes in river deltas and high-latitude shelves, using remote sensing, GIS, hydrography and hydrodynamic models (including SWAT+, MIKE 21 and Delft3D/FM).
His research connects two regions that are changing rapidly under climate forcing: Asian mega-deltas (Ganges–Brahmaputra–Meghna / Sundarbans, Mahanadi, Mekong, Red River and the Andaman coast) and Arctic / sub-Arctic systems (Hudson Bay landfast ice and river plumes, Great Arctic River deltas, and ice-affected sediment routing). Themes include coastal vulnerability and risk, mangrove and shoreline change, landfast sea ice, freshwater–marine coupling, blue carbon and sediment dynamics, and nature-based climate adaptation. He holds a Northwest Territories Scientific Research Licence and works with community-engaged Arctic research frameworks.
He received a PhD in Science from Jadavpur University (2014; nostrified by the University of Silesia, Poland) and earlier degrees in Marine Science (University of Calcutta) and Remote Sensing and GIS (IIRS, ISRO). Previous posts include Affiliated Faculty and Research Scientist at the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand), Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Earth Observation Science, University of Manitoba (Canada), and research roles with ISRO/SAC, DECCMA, ESPA Deltas and the World Bank.
He has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles (about 4,800 citations; h-index 33) and has edited volumes with Springer and CRC Press. He is a life member of the European Geosciences Union, the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, and the Order of the Arctic Adventurers, and co-convened EGU 2026 session GM9.3 on ice dynamics, sediments and Arctic delta futures
